Information Architect/UI Designer, NBC Universal - New York, NY - Full & Contract

JOB DESCRIPTION

NBC Universal is looking for Information Architects/UI Designers mid to senior-level in the New York City area. Both contract and full-time opportunities are available. Come work with us in the newly-formed UX Design team, creating next-generation websites and webapps for NBCU's host of high-profile brands.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Information Architect/UI Designer is responsible for the design and creation of wireframes, userflows, and user interface designs for our suite of websites & online applications. The User Interface designer develops documents and designs based on Business Requirement Documents,
Functional Specifications, input from the Product Design and Operations staff, and other supporting documentation.

  • Design and implement highly usable interfaces with the best possible user experience, working with interaction designers, product managers, software engineers, and project managers
  • Produce high level flows and detailed prototypes and mockups to effectively test and communicate designs
  • Work with our product specialists to validate designs and iterate on findings
  • Maintain current knowledge of what's possible with the technologies and interface standards across the broad range of platforms and browsers we support
  • Work with all product teams to create a superior end-user/customer experience for all Blackboard product lines
  • Work collaboratively with product managers to create the functional specification document and project documentation

QUALIFICATIONS
Educational Requirements: BA/BS or MA/MS in related field

Required Skills & Experience:
  • 3+ years experience designing highly usable, effective interfaces for web applications
  • Experience with user-centered design methodologies
  • Strong information and interaction design experience
  • Experience developing conceptual models, flowcharts, prototypes, detailed UI design requirements, and interface designs
  • Strong visualization and presentation skills, (Indesign, Illustrator, Visio, PhotoShop)
  • Familiarity with Flash, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS design capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based development environment
  • Excellent cross-team collaboration, communication, written and organizational skills
  • Portfolio of successful products and artifacts
  • Ability to meet ambitious deadlines and deliver high-quality work on schedule
  • Demonstrated understanding of how implementation decisions impact
  • User experience in terms of browser compatibility, accessibility, internalization and performance
  • Strong skills in prototyping and current front end standards
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

Bonus Points for:
  • Experience conducting usability testing and analysis
  • Ability to design and create documentation
  • Experience with Content Management systems
